• What is Project Faith? Open or Close

Project Faith is our yearly all-school fundraiser. FCS, students, teachers, coaches, and alums, provide a day of service to an agency. Each student sends out letters to friends and family asking to be sponsored for the day of service with a monetary donation.

The Letters: Students return their stamped, addressed, letters to school by February 23. At an all-school assembly, the letters are prayed over and then brought to the Post Office. All donors receive
an acknowledgment from the school for their donation. Students are encouraged to thank their
sponsors personally. An updated list of sponsors is provided to students periodically. Students who have turned in the minimum number of letters to be sent will receive a Dress Down
Day to be redeemed the week of March 4-8.

Corporate Sponsors: Businesses or individuals choose to sponsor Project Faith. The logo or name
of the business is printed on the back of the Project Faith T-shirt and is listed on our website,
Facebook page, in the Shield, and on the Project Faith brochure for the following year.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a corporate sponsor, contact Jay Whitmore at Jwhitmore@fcsva.com.

T-shirt Design Contest: We host a contest for students to submit design ideas for the T-shirt. One design is chosen by the committee for each division; one design for the Lower School and one for the Middle and Upper School. The shirt color is the same.

Students should submit their design ideas on 8.5 x 11 paper with names printed on the back, by
    February 27.

  • When is Project Faith? Open or Close

This year it is April 26. Project Faith is always the last Friday in April. A rain date, if needed, is the following Monday.

  • Who attends Project Faith? Open or Close

All students, JK-12, teachers, administrators, and alumni work together that day to complete a list of
    projects.

  • Can younger siblings attend? Open or Close

No. Due to the nature of the day, we ask you not to bring younger siblings.

  • Everyone attending Project Faith needs a signed Assumption of Risk form. Open or Close

Please complete one form for your family. Print the full parent name on the first line, and list all your children at Faith Christian School on the next line.
At the bottom, sign the first line. Parents who are working at Project Faith should also sign as “Adult
Participants.” There are two lines, so each parent may sign. Please print the parent names in the last space.

Copies were sent home with the students, one per family. You can also access that form here.

  • Where are we serving this year? Open or Close

Camp Bethel, 328 Bethel Road Fincastle, whose mission is to foster and build relationships with God, with each other, and with all of God’s creation together.

More information about Camp Bethel and what they provide at https://www.campbethelvirginia.org/

  • What will I be doing that day? Open or Close

Plans are currently being worked out by a committee of volunteer parents. There are a multitude of projects including, painting, staining, cleaning, repairs, and landscaping. Your project managers will communicate more specifics on the work for your child’s team in the next few weeks. You can check back here for more details as we get closer to April 26.

  • What do I wear? Open or Close

Project Faith T-shirts are provided to every volunteer. Please be sure to order a shirt for your children and yourself at https://forms.gle/wYf2eLHbC5byY22v7

Important - Ordering a T-shirt lets us know you are coming. Knowing the number of adult volunteers
assists the volunteer Project Managers to plan efficiently for the day. When you order, select the
grade with which you plan to work.

Is Youth Medium the smallest size?
Yes, it is. To fit all our corporate sponsors on the back we don’t offer a youth small.
You should dress in old or worn clothes which you don’t mind getting dirty or paint or
stain on. Wear closed-toed, sturdy footwear and socks, and long pants.

Check the weather for the day and wear warm clothes under your Project Faith T-shirt if it is going to be cold. You may need a light jacket or sweatshirt at the start of the day. Wear sunscreen and bug spray if the weather is going to be warm.

  • What do I bring? Open or Close

    Everyone should bring the following:
    A refillable water bottle
    A hearty snack
    Work gloves
    Paintbrush

This year Camp Bethel is providing a lunch. If your child or you have personal dietary needs, you should plan to pack and bring your own lunch.

The Project Managers will communicate more specific items to bring. Some larger tool items may be requested, such as rakes, shovels, wheel barrows.

  • How will I get my items back? Open or Close

Clearly label everything with your name.

  • What is a Handy Helper? Open or Close

Handy Helpers are parents who have specific skills in carpentry, painting, plumbing, electricity, or the use of power tools and wish to get into a project that day or possibly before the day. Project Faith has been able to complete more complex projects for organizations with the work of our Handy Helpers.

If you volunteer to be a Handy Helper, you likely will not be working with your child, but on the specific project. If this appeals to you, please indicate it on your T-shirt form and let your Project Manager know your specific skill set.

  • How do students get to Camp Bethel from Faith Christian School? Open or Close

Carpools are arranged by grade or division. You will be contacted if you are driving. Students are placed in cars just as for a class trip. Due to limited parking, adults may also be assigned to a car as a passenger.

  • Can I drive my child directly to Camp Bethel? Open or Close

No. Students are required to begin the day at school. Students will be dismissed to carpools after
    attendance is taken.

  • What is the Celebration? Open or Close

Following our work day we celebrate! Once the work for your team is completed, students and parents are dismissed to the Celebration to enjoy the spirit of the day. Typically we have had a bounce house, inflatable game, ice cream, popcorn, and cotton candy. Students and parents have the opportunity to relax and enjoy each other’s company. We are blessed to be able to celebrate on the Camp Bethel site this year.

Students are dismissed from the Celebration by checking out with their teacher.
