Is FCS accredited with any organizations?

Faith Christian School is accredited by the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS). The school also has memberships with the Virginia Council on Private Education (VCPE) and the Educational Records Bureau (ERB).
Additionally, some teachers hold professional memberships in the Society for Classical Learning (SCL) as well as the (ACCS).
The School has memberships with the Virginia Association of Christian Athletics (VACA) and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA).

What are the qualifications of your teachers?

All full-time teachers have degrees in-field and/or certification in-field, and most have many years of teaching experience. All teachers are screened with a criminal background check.

What is the school’s policy regarding class size?

The maximum class size is twenty (20) for grades JK-12 unless approved by the Board of Directors in special circumstances.

Does the school have a waiting pool for classes?

Each year, Faith Christian School typically receives more applications from qualified students seeking admission than we have space to accept. A wait pool is created to offer qualified students an opportunity to remain in consideration for admission, should space become available.

No, Faith Christian School is an independent, multi-denominational school supporting families in many churches in the Roanoke Valley. We operate the school with funds from tuition and donations.

What standardized test(s) does Faith Christian School administer?
Open or Close
Students in grades K-3 take the Fountas & Pinnell test to assess reading skills in fluency, decoding, and comprehension.
We also administer the ERB to students in grades 2-8. The ERB is a reasoning and achievement test that provides a rigorous assessment of student achievement in reading, listening, vocabulary, writing, and mathematics.
Students take the PSAT in grades 9-11, SAT in grades 11-12, and may choose to take select AP exams in grades 11-12.

Does the school need funds over and above the tuition receipts?

Tuition does not fully cover the cost of a student’s education. The Annual Bridge Fund and Project Faith are the fundraisers which help to offset operating costs which exceed tuition receipts. Parents are encouraged to make contributions when possible.

Is Financial Aid available and is there a tuition discount for multiple children?

Families may apply for Variable Tuition after receiving an Enrollment Contract. There is no tuition discount for multiple children, however, families typically qualify for a greater percentage of financial aid with the addition of each enrolled student.

What are the operating hours of the school?

The Lower School (Full-day JK-5th grade) begins at 8:00 AM and dismisses at 2:50 PM.
Half-day Junior Kindergarten dismisses at 12:30 PM.
Middle and Upper School (grades 6-12) begins at 8:00 AM and dismisses at 3:10 PM.
Faith Zone, our after-school program, is available until 6:00 PM.

What is the school’s policy regarding a dress code or uniform?

Faith Christian School requires students to wear a designated dress code. The clothing is comfortable, casual, and easy to launder. Parents are informed of acceptable clothing before the school year begins, which can be ordered through Lands’ End.

Faith Christian School has instilled a love of learning in my children. It is a blessing to see them so excited to share their knowledge gained at school. Even more exciting is watching them make connections between concepts learned in school and applying that knowledge in their lives.
